ABOUT SOSOD
Introduction
SOSOD is a registered body under the Tamilnadu societies Act 1975 and it is governed by its rules and regulations. It is also registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act of Central Government. An elected managing committee having 5 members regulates the activities of SOSOD. The head office of SOSOD is located at Nagercoil the capital of Kanyakumari district of Tamilnadu state, India-and it has an field office at levenjipuram of Tirunelveli district.
SOSOD has a group of social scientists, engineers and women activities who are engaging in disseminating appropriate rural disadvantaged people, and who are working for the benefit of rural people. It has completed 9 years after inception in 1990. Further, it has been conducting many action research program in the project area and got many success stories.
VISION:
To solve the problem of the socially disadvantaged section of the community through appropriate technology intervention with peoples participation
GOAL
- To work for the promotion of science and technology among the weaker section of the society especially farmers, artisans, potters, fishermen, rural poor, women, children etc that solves their socio economic problem.
- To conduct research, action research and development programmes for solving the problems that have faced by the weaker section of the society especially in the matter of intermediate technologies, low cost sustainable building materials, energy savings techniques, rainwater harvesting, agriculture and sanitation and environment etc.
- To conduct training programme, project planning, evaluation programmes, etc in the above fields.
- To document and disseminate scientific and technical information related to rural, environmental and to offer solutions.
- To provide consultancy services to people’s organization in order to find out socially appropriate solution for their problem and using locally available resources.
- To act as linking agency between people’s institution, government and non- government research institutions.
- To perform micro credit activities and development of women & children through self help groups in rural villages.
- To disseminate appropriate rural technologies for the benefit of the disadvantaged sections of the society.
